چکیده

It is widely believed that the rising incidence of venereal diseases (especially syphilis and gonorrhea) observed in numerous countries over the past decade is likely to continue in coming years. This line of thought has encouraged health administrators to plan and implement measures that will broaden our knowledge of this problem and lead to more effective control. In view of the need to revitalize and develop such programs in many parts of the Americas, some comments on difficulties revealed by past experience are in order. For one thing, the economic situation faced by developing countries limits the financial resources available for specific measures. For another-despite incomplete evidence-it seems likely that the major health problem posed by these diseases is itself aggravated by various environmental factors resulting from underdevelopment (I). Vaginal chemoprophylaxis in the reduction of reinfection in women with gonorrhoea. Clinical evaluation of the effectiveness of a vaginal contraceptive.

A clinical investigation was undertaken to determine if chemoprophylaxis in the form of a contraceptive pessary would reduce the rate of reinfection with gonorrhoea in 1245 female patients attending a venereal disease clinic. After the introduction of the pessary the reinfection rate over a 16-week period was 19% compared with 40% in the control clinic patients. It was also found that women cou...

The number of cases of primary and secondary syphilis decreased by 85% and the number of cases of gonorrhoea by 30%. This paper presents the main guidelines of the campaign and a...

Horvitz-Thompson estimator of population mean under inverse sampling designs

Inverse sampling design is generally considered to be appropriate technique when the population is divided into two subpopulations, one of which contains only few units. In this paper, we derive the Horvitz-Thompson estimator for the population mean under inverse sampling designs, where subpopulation sizes are known. We then introduce an alternative unbiased estimator, corresponding to post-st...
